wheelin' and dealin'

I hadn't planned on going thrifting, but suddenly my car took me and I'm pretty pleased with the results!

floral printed silk turtleneck | talbot's
Love the thought of this with black dress pants and a solid neon scarf!

coral silk pencil skirt
This skirt is 100% silk and I could not pass on it.

cream pencil skirt | talbot's
I am obsessed, head over heels in love with this skirt guys.  I really do love the way it looks over my black lace dress and it's looked so beautiful with the pieces in my closet that I've tried it on with.

pencil skirt | talbot's
I've been all about jewel tones recently (my whole life) so this is a step outside of what I'd usually go for.  This hue feels more muted to me but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this shade once I tried it on.

And I love the way these Talbot's skirts fit me as well.  Not sure I love them enough to start paying full price for them, but I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for them in future thrifting adventures.

red pencil skirt
I promise this skirt and the coral skirt are definitely different shades in person and I'm thrilled about them both since I didn't own any red skirts or shorts before this.

skirt (includes belt) | target
Funny story about this skirt: Target released these last spring and I bought two very similar and then forced myself to wait before buying any more.  When I decided that I did want another, they were sold out of my size.  So when I found this one with the tags still on, I got really excited and decided to try it on despite it being an extra small.

Nothing is more forgiving than a skirt that features elastic and buttons.  The pink belt is gorgeous and I am crazy about the color of the skirt (yay jewel tones!).

skirt | the limited
I own so much black but this skirt is a different length than the other black skirts I own.

skirt recap

The absolute best thing about all of these items? They all cost $3 and as you can see from the pictures - they all match items already in my closet. For the longest time, I thought that thrifting was a skill that I couldn't possess and now I find myself going to look through racks when I get bored.

Tis the season (to get thrifty)

The holidays are always a tough time because there's so many good sales, but it's also the time when I feel like I should only be buying for others.  Every year is a struggle because I find that some deals are just too good to pass up.

I have a love-hate relationship with Forever 21, I know it's weird.  I love that the store allows you to try a trend at a relatively low price, but I hate that the store rarely has sales and doesn't allow returns.  On top of that, my local XXI is two stories with escalators which sounds wonderful, but is really just incredibly overwhelming and messy.

However, when I got an email from them letting me know about the 21% off they were offering for Friends and Family this past weekend, I decided to go in to look for a leather jacket I had seen on their site.

studded leather jacket | forever 21, $37.80
This one was on sale for 50% online Black Friday weekend, but I hesitated to buy because I like to try jackets on first and I hate paying for shipping. I didn't think I'd be able to find this in store after it disappeared from the web site but as I scoped out the first floor, I found the jacket in black and white. After debating on sizing and color, I decided on the black in medium.  With the F&F discount the jacket was $29.86.  I love the gold zippers and studs on this.

I'm a sucker for striped knit tees. They're so easy to layer or wear with colored pants and matching jewelry and I always think they look nicer than a tshirt.  So, it wasn't a hard decision to pick up this one in Royal/Mint ($8.53).  One of my friends loves anything Union Jack so I teasingly sent her a picture and she quickly convinced me to buy it.

I also went thrifting and found some real gems.

close up of detail

I was super excited about this sheer green blouse.  The top is loose fitting and I think it would look fantastic tucked into a gold sequined skirt for the holiday season.

Next was an interesting find -- do you ever wonder about the previous owner of thrifted clothes?

These were besides each other on the rack, one still had the tags as shown above.  I'm curious as to why someone bought two of the same $40 shirt at Express and then took it to Goodwill.

These will be great under cardigans until it's warm enough to wear them alone.

ikat ruffle tank | thrifted, $3

Grabbed this tank to pull on as I tried on a cardigan and ended up liking it better than the sweater.  It's bright and fun and will also be wonderful under cardigans until it warms up again.

patterned knit tee | thrifted, talbot's - $3
Overall, a pretty great thrift haul that I'm very excited to style.

Have a good one!

Election Day thrift haul

Yesterday, I took a break from nervously waiting for election results to come in to go check out one of my local Goodwill's and see if I found anything good to add to my closet.

I love to shop...and sometimes it's problematic for my budget.  Lately, I've been trying to make a list of clothing staples, colors or items that I'm on the hunt for in an effort to limit myself from making unplanned splurges.

This week's list.
You'll see the last item on the list is pencil skirts.  I think they are a great versatile piece but it did take me awhile to accept them due to my occasional dislike of my pear-shaped body.

Fortunately, I'm starting to get past that and found some great additions for my closet!

White House | Black Market skirt - $3
I actually already have a black pencil skirt but the cut on this one is different and the sheen appears satiny.  Most of White House | Black Market's skirts retail at over $100 so I was pretty pumped.

Rickie Freeman for Terri Jon - $3
Despite the fact that this is a size 4, I might still end up getting the waist taken in a little to add to really showcase my figure. Love this for holiday parties, etc. This brand is sold at Sak's with skirts running around $300.

Alanni by Donny Brook - $3
Possibly, my favorite find of the day.  Yellow is one of my favorite colors and while many people are all about neutral tones in the fall and winter months, I love having pops of color to cheer up the often dreary weather.

Camel colored skirt | apostrophe - $3
I didn't have anything camel colored and while I usually shy away from browns because I don't like feeling like something matches my skin tone, I love this skirt and think it will go with lots of items in my wardrobe.

Printed skirt | LOFT - $3
This skirt still had the tags on! Love LOFT, love the top pockets on this skirt so it was an easy decision.

I also picked up a really cute white top and ended up spending just $19 after tax.  You can't beat Goodwill.

What's your best Goodwill find?
